Südbloc Berlin: walls, grades, facilities, and prices

Südbloc is a bouldering-only hall in Berlin-Mariendorf, in the south of the city. It sits in a big brick industrial hall with a tower, inside the SIRIUS Businesspark on Großbeerenstraße. The gym covers 1,600 square metres of hall space, plus a large outdoor bouldering area. City guides describe it as the big sister of Ostbloc, the hall in Friedrichshain. This profile compiles what the gym publishes on its own site, dated as of August 2026.

Walls and terrain

Problems are marked with colour-coded start signs. The gym states that boulders are set in six grades, plus a joker colour. Every hold and foot chip of one colour, together with the wall structures, belongs to a single problem. That keeps the system easy to read on a first visit: pick a colour, follow the signs.

The hall itself is full of unusual shapes. Berlin guides name a freestanding 18-metre double-roof structure as the landmark feature. There is also a speed bouldering wall, which the gym’s posts call the Sektor Speed. A steep sector called Tornado rounds out the terrain. The outdoor area adds another set of walls in the open air, with a sunny terrace and several seating spots.

Prices and memberships

All prices come from the gym’s pricing page. The page itself carries a stand date of February 2024. The gym’s own news and Instagram still match those numbers in 2026, including the early-bird rate. The stamp below is the check date, August 2026.

Reduced rates apply to pupils, students, and Berlinpass holders. The same rate covers holders of a disabled pass, seniors, and refugees aged 21 and over with proof of status. Kids aged 1 to 5 climb for 5.00 euros. Kids aged 6 to 11 pay 8.00, always with a paying adult. Children under 1 enter free. A non-climbing adult supervising up to two children under 12 pays 6.00. Shoes rent for 4.00 euros and a chalk bag for 2.00.

Members of the DAV section AlpinClub Berlin get 25 percent off entry, per the pricing page. They also get 20 percent off all time cards. The early-bird rate returned in January 2026 after a break. The gym’s news post from that month confirms the 8.00 euro price. It applies on weekdays until 14:00, except on holidays and bridge days.

Facilities beyond the walls

The training area is the other headline feature. The gym has run a KilterBoard since 2023, per visitBerlin’s guide. A KilterBoard is an app-driven board with a database of over 50,000 problems. The holds light up to show the line. The gym’s Instagram also shows a MoonBoard and a Woods Board there. A system wall, a campus board, and weights complete the setup.

There is a yoga room and large showers. The bistro serves salads, smoothies, pizza, sandwiches, coffee, and cake. In summer, the terrace outside is part of the offer. A 15-metre slackline stretches across the outdoor area, per the Urban Sports Club guide. The hall rents crash pads, and the shop sells shoes, chalk, tape, and the gym’s own T-shirts.

Families and kids

Families are a clear priority here. Kids aged 1 to 5 climb for 5.00 euros. Kids aged 6 to 11 pay 8.00, always with a paying adult. One adult may supervise up to two children. A separate kids-and-family hall runs during the day, with kids under supervision. From age 12, climbers may visit alone with a signed parental consent form, per the gym’s info page.

The gym introduced its own Boulderführerschein license in November 2025. Birthday parties start at 139.00 euros. That package covers up to six kids, and each extra child costs 19.00. School classes pay from 10.00 euros per person with a trainer, from ten kids. Family courses and fixed kids training groups round out the offer.

Events and competitions

Südbloc is a regular competition venue. The 10th Techniker Boulder Bundesliga season kicked off there on August 1, 2026. The day ran qualification in the morning and a Deutschland Cup final in the evening. Spectator entry was free throughout, per the gym’s news page. The hall hosted the second station of the BLOKI Cup in May 2026. In spring 2026 it joined the Berlin Bouldert Session, a five-hall series with 150 problems.

Event days section off Halle 1, the competition hall. The gym states that the Tornado sector, the kids-and-family hall, and the outdoor area stay open on those days. Music Nights run several times a year. Entry is free from 20:00, and music runs from 22:00 to 1:00. A summer ball with a grill and a kids’ craft area took place in June 2026.

Getting there

The hall sits in the SIRIUS Businesspark on Großbeerenstraße, about 400 metres from the U-Bahn station Alt Mariendorf. That station is the terminus of the U6 line. Several bus lines stop at the junction, including the M76, M77, and X76. Night lines N6 and N79 also serve it. The S-Bahn S2 stops at Attilastraße and Marienfelde, about 15 minutes on foot. The gym’s contact page points to the big brick hall with the tower, about 200 metres from the Lidl supermarket.

Who it suits

Südbloc suits climbers who want variety and a big outdoor section. The mix of six grades, steep sectors, and unusual wall shapes covers most styles. Training-minded climbers get three app-driven boards. Families get a dedicated hall and clear kids pricing. The location is the trade-off: Mariendorf sits south of the centre, at the end of the U6 line.

Compared with its sister hall Ostbloc, Südbloc offers more outdoor space and training kit. Community threads describe both halls warmly. One r/berlinsocialclub poster says Südbloc’s problems are particularly enjoyable. In short: pick Ostbloc for the nightlife vibe, pick Südbloc for the space.
