About Bouldering Halls
Bouldering Halls is a field guide to the world's bouldering gyms, compiled from a desk in Berlin.
Who writes this
Bouldering Halls is written by Milo Berger, a Berlin-based boulderer who has spent years obsessively cataloguing gyms: floor plans, wall angles, grade ranges, price lists, opening hours, the works.
This site is a catalogue, not a diary. It is desk research. Facts are compiled from official gym websites, published specs, pricing pages, and public community sentiment, and they are attributed accordingly: "the gym states", "climbers frequently mention". There are no trip reports here, and no first-person visit claims. If a fact cannot be verified, it is omitted or explicitly flagged as unverified. Prices and opening hours go stale, so they always carry an "as of" date stamp.
How the catalogue is compiled
Every gym profile follows the same protocol. The official website and pricing page are the primary sources for size, walls, grading, facilities, prices, and hours. Where the gym publishes specs (square meters, wall area, number of problems), those numbers are used verbatim and attributed. Community sentiment from public forums and review sites is used only for the "who it suits" sections, and only when it is recurring rather than a single opinion. Every price and hour carries an "as of" stamp. Unknown facts are omitted or flagged, never invented.
Chains get one overview page plus per-location profiles. Cities get guides that rank the halls for different kinds of climber. Coverage starts with destination gyms and major chains, moves to capitals and climbing hub cities, then to secondary cities.
Why this site exists
Bouldering gym facts are scattered. Official sites bury pricing behind booking flows, specs differ from hall to hall, and reviews mix opinion with fact. This site exists to do the tedious part once: collect the same fact set for every hall, date it, source it, and put it in one place where any two gyms can be compared at a glance.
