The halls worth knowing
Four halls cover the city’s styles: techno, family, old-school bunker, and big-box variety. They all sit inside the S-Bahn ring, except Südbloc at the end of the U6. All four are bouldering-first, and two of them add roped climbing. The table below gives the essentials.

The price picture
Day passes run from 11.00 to 13.50 euros, and every hall offers a cheaper early-bird window. Der Kegel has the lowest day pass, and Südbloc has the lowest single entry overall. The chart below compares the standard day pass with each hall’s early-bird rate.
The early-bird windows differ. Ostbloc and Der Kegel run theirs on weekdays until 14:00, per their info and pricing pages. Südbloc does the same, per its pricing page. Bouldergarten’s window runs until 15:00, per its pricing page. Reduced rates for students, pupils, and Berlinpass holders exist at all four halls, and kids pricing varies widely. TipSüdbloc’s early-bird pass is the cheapest single entry among the four halls at 8.00 euros, on weekdays until 14:00. Ostbloc and Der Kegel follow at 9.00, and Bouldergarten’s early bird costs 11.50 until 15:00. All as of August 2026.
A punch card or membership changes the math. Ostbloc’s monthly abo runs 50.00 euros. Südbloc’s year card works out to 52.00 per month. Who each hall suits
Pick by style, not by size. The four halls target different sessions, and the community threads reflect that split. Climbers on r/bouldering describe Ostbloc and Südbloc as “nice gyms with good, kinda oldschool vibes”. Both halls add indoor and outdoor areas.
Ostbloc suits the nightlife crowd. The gym plays house and techno, closes at 23:00, and needs no course for beginners. Its eleven sectors re-set on Mondays, and it runs a tiltable spray wall for training.
Südbloc suits variety seekers and families. It adds a large outdoor area, a speed wall, and three app-driven training boards: KilterBoard, MoonBoard, and Woods Board. Kids aged 1 to 5 climb for 5.00 euros, and a separate kids-and-family hall runs during the day.
Bouldergarten suits climbers who want more than bouldering. It is the only profiled hall with roped climbing, a sauna, and a dedicated kids area on blue mats. Weekends book out, so the gym runs an online booking system.
Der Kegel suits beginners and old-school fans. Its bouldering stays low at 4 metres, its day pass is the cheapest at 11.00 euros, and kids up to 12 pay 7.00. The 18-metre bunker tower adds roped climbing, but there are no top ropes and no rope rental.
WarningDer Kegel sets no top ropes and does not lend ropes. Roped climbing on the tower needs your own rope and proof of certification. Kids under 18 must book a weekend time slot there.
Beyond the big four
Berlin’s scene is bigger than four halls. The rest are worth knowing by name, even before they get their own profiles on this site.
Berta Block in Pankow draws the strongest local praise: one r/berlin thread calls it “definitely the best one”. Boulderklub in Kreuzberg and Bright Site are named alongside it for kids and general sessions. Magic Mountain in Wedding has offered roped climbing since 2002, per Brunnenmagazin.
Two halls opened in 2025. Das Elektra opened in July 2025 on the former AEG grounds near Humboldthain. It covers 1,900 square metres and has areas for kids from age three, per Brunnenmagazin and its own site. Urban Apes took over the former Schillerpark-Center in Wedding the same summer, its fourth Berlin location. None of these halls have profiles on this site yet, so no prices are listed here.

Der Kegel keeps walls low at 4 metres and prices kids at 7.00 euros. Ostbloc also works: the gym states that no course is required to boulder there, including for first-time visitors.
Which hall is best for kids?
Bouldergarten runs the best-documented kids area, the Kinderwald on blue mats, at over 120 square metres. Südbloc has a separate kids-and-family hall and kids pricing from 5.00 euros. Der Kegel requires weekend slot bookings for under-18s.
Which hall is best for training?
Südbloc has the most kit: KilterBoard since 2023, MoonBoard, Woods Board, a system wall, and a campus board. Ostbloc runs a tiltable spray wall.
Which hall has roped climbing?
Bouldergarten offers 62 lead and top-rope routes. Der Kegel has the 18-metre bunker tower, but climbers bring their own rope and certification.
